Depending on your business type, the ability to accept Tips can be extremely important. This article provides information about how Tips are collected, edited, and refunded.

Please Note: This article assumes that Tip functionality is enabled for your organization. Please visit the 'Transactions' section of your VanillaPOS settings to determine whether or not Tipping is enabled.

Adding a Tip During a Sale

When making any Sale (Custom Charge or Product sale), the option to add a Tip is included just before the payment method is required.

With Tap to Pay enabled

After adding the charge amount OR adding products to a purchase, the 'Add a Tip' screen will be presented - this screen provides the following options for adding a Tip:

  • Manual Tip Amount entry using the pin pad

  • Tip based on % of Total entry using buttons located either to the left or below the pin pad (based on device type)

Please Note: When using Tap to Pay, editing the Tip amount once entered is not allowed. In the event that you wish to edit the Tip amount, simply clear the sale using the 'Clear Sale' button and being the sale again.

Without Tap to Pay enabled

After adding the charge amount OR adding products to a purchase, you will be brought to the checkout screen. Here you can add a Tip by using the 'Add Tip' option displayed below the Totals near the bottom of your screen.

Once Tip has been entered, you can edit the Tip amount (including removing it entirely) but tapping on the 'Change Tip' option displayed below the Totals near the bottom of your screen.

Adding a Tip on a Completed Transaction

In the event that you would like to add a Tip once a Transaction has been completed:

  1. Visit the Transactions screen by pressing the 'Transactions' action button located on the Home screen

  2. Tap on the Transaction that you would like to add a Tip to - if the Transaction is eligible for Tip addition, it will display an Add Tip status on a bright blue background in the upper right hand corner

  3. Enter a Manual Tip Amount by using the pin pad, or add a Tip based on % of Total, and press the 'Enter' button in the lower right hand corner of the pin pad (the light-colored button with the arrow pointing towards the right) to complete the Tip addition.
