Can I provide customers with receipts?

Yes - VanillaPOS allows you to provide your customers with receipts in three ways; print, email, and text/SMS:

  1. Print receipt - this option requires a connected, compatible bluetooth printer (Vanilla works primarily w/ Epson Printers)

  2. Email receipt - this option will require you to collect your customer's name and email address; once collected, their receipt will be sent immediately

  3. Text /SMS receipt - this option will require you to collect your customer's name and mobile phone number; once collected, their receipt will be sent immediately


Does VanillaPOS support Tipping?

Yes, tipping can be enabled at the organization level.

When enabled, you can add Tips to Transactions, including Custom Charges, Product sales, and recently completed Transactions. In addition to custom tip input, suggested tip amounts are also a feature.

Note: not all business types can be configured to allow for tipping in Stripe. Learn more


Does VanillaPOS support Promotional Codes / Discounts?

Yes, the usage of Promotional Codes / Discounts can be enabled at the organization level. VanillaPOS allows:

  • Discount codes (percentage- or amount-based)

  • Capped discounts (e.g., 10% up to $100)

When enabled, you can enter/apply promotional codes to sales made from your POS. Promotional codes can be created by accessing the Discounts tab of your VanillaPOS Dashboard


Can I issue refunds directly from the POS?

Yes - Refunds (partial or full) can be issued from the transaction history in VanillaPOS. Refunds are securely linked to the original payment method used, which protects against fraudulent chargebacks.


Can I create custom charges?

Yes - VanillaPOS allows:

  • Custom charges (e.g., $500 service fee)

  • Variable pricing for services such as shipping or onsite assessed fees attached to a product purchase.


Can I check if a customer has an active subscription or balance?

Yes - you can view subscription details for a particular customer by visiting the Customers tab, where you will find relevant subscription details such as subscriptions associated with each customer, bill dates, and status


Can I customize receipts?

Yes - receipt templates can include marketing disclaimers, legal language, and optional opt-in fields (e.g., SMS consent).

These templates are configurable for different use cases, such as ticketing or retail.


Can customers be saved for future transactions?

Yes - customer profiles (email, phone number, etc.) can be stored, allowing the POS to pre-fill details for receipts and loyalty programs.

You can also skip customer entry for anonymous transactions.


Can VanillaPOS handle shipping or service-based products?

Yes. You can:

  • Add “Shipping” as a product with variable pricing

  • Designate products as services (both taxable or non-taxable)
