Organization Admins can lock individual fields on organization-managed products and subscriptions. Field-level locking allows the organization to protect important information while leaving other fields available for account-level customization.
How Field Locking Works
Each supported product field can be either locked or unlocked.
Locked Fields
A locked field:
Is controlled by the organization
Appears as read-only at the account level
Cannot be changed by an Account Admin
Must be updated by an Organization Admin
Unlocked Fields
An unlocked field:
Starts with the value provided by the organization
Can be edited at the account level
Allows an account to customize that part of the product
This provides more flexibility than locking the entire product.
Locking a Product Field
To manage product fields:
Sign in as an Organization Admin.
Open the organization-level Products area.
Create or select a product or subscription.
Locate the lock control for the field you want to manage.
Lock fields that must remain organization-controlled.
Leave fields unlocked when account-level editing is permitted.
Save the product.
Accounts associated with the product will see the applicable fields as editable or read-only.
Example
An organization may want every account to sell a product using the same name and price while allowing account-specific customization elsewhere.
The Organization Admin can:
Lock the product name
Lock the price
Leave an appropriate local field unlocked
Account users can update only the unlocked field.
Using Field Locks with Catalogs
Field locks apply to organization-managed catalog products.
When an account adds a product from a catalog:
Locked values remain controlled by the organization.
Unlocked values can be updated by the account.
The available editing controls reflect the organization’s current field settings.
